Cancun is the ultimate dream vacation destination for millions of visitors from all over the world. In addition, Cancun real estate is thriving as many look to invest in Cancun homes and Cancun beachfront property.

The climate of Cancun is ideal, with warm temperatures and cool ocean breezes. The typical temperature is between 78.8 degrees F and 96.8 degrees F all year round. The sun shines most every day, with only occasional rain showers and rainbows.

Beautiful beaches, tropical lagoons, and a thriving downtown area help to drive the rising cost of Cancun real estate. In addition, the city offers a virtually endless list of recreational water activities, which include scuba diving, snorkeling, boating, jet skiing, and more. Cancun is home to several geological parks, teeming with exotic marine life. Cancun real estate is also near many small ruins of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization.

Cancun's downtown area is referred to as Cancun City, which is connected to the island by two bridges. Cancun City boasts several places to shop, as well as several Cuban/salsa-type bars and restaurants. The fantastic nightlife is attributed to the area's impressive array of bars and clubs. Some of the most popular bars and clubs include the Coco Bongo, Senor Frogs, The City, Bulldog Café, Dady O, and Dady Rock.

The older section of the city is comprised of neighborhoods called supermanzanas (superblocks) that are formed by the intersections of the boulevards. The neighborhoods are set apart by winding streets with cul de sacs designed to keep out the main flow of traffic. These are typically accompanied by one or more parks and other green spaces.

Of the several developments in Cancun, there are numerous types of properties including rental and vacation homes. Additionally, Cancun real estate includes a variety of upscale private residences and luxurious condominiums, as well as beachfront lots, townhouses, and villas.

History of Cancun

During the early 1950s, Cancun was just a small, little-known island off the Mexican Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Cancun was home to three caretakers of a coconut plantation and pre-Columbian ruins of the Maya civilization. Prior to 1970, the government of Mexico decided to develop a tourist resort on Cancun. A causeway was built to connect Cancun to the mainland. During that time, Cancun International Airport was also built, along with housing, schools, and medical facilities.

Cancun was established as a city in 1972, and went on to grow rapidly during the 1980s. The Mexican government financed the first eight hotels on the island, before the region began attracting investors from all over the globe.

At present time, Cancun is home to a population of around 600,000 residents, most of whom are from Yucatan and other Mexican states, but there is a growing number of Americans and Europeans in the area as well.

In 2005, Hurricane Wilma struck Cancun, which led to a massive renovation, and the area has been beautifully restored. The city continues to flourish as a vacation haven, as well as a second home destination.

Cancun caters to people from all walks of life, thanks to the city's variety of beaches, activities, downtown, and nightlife. As part of the Riviera Maya, Cancun is a famous Spring Break destination for its party beaches, vibrant clubs, and youthful atmosphere. Alternatively, Cancun real estate offers access to beautiful, isolated beaches and tranquil tropical areas for those who seek a quieter vacation or lifestyle.
